1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
The band is a 5-piece. We play black thrash death dtakt metal. Musically we are primarily influenced by Impaled Nazarene, Shitlickers, Sarcófago, and Kuro. Conceptually we are influenced by San Caino, Nefastos, Roman Tradition, European Mysticism, Occult Militarism
2.How would you describe the musical sound that is present on the demo?.
The demo is a fair introduction to the band. It captures the variety of our sound but was recorded very early in the project. It was tracked by only 3 of the 5 current members. The band now is much more brutal, more aggressive, more violent. More developed in every regard.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Lyrically, we address topics such as misanthropy, Luciferian Gnosticism, San Caino. We play music with vehement detestation of humanity and for the triumphant glorification of Lord Lucifer.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Sangus Legionaris?
Sangus Legio is vernacular Roman Latin for "Blood Legions". This is what we call the band and the family of our loved ones and the faithfully like-minded throughout this world.
We refer to the band alone as Sangus.
5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
One of our most recent gigs was a fantastic show with brother band CHURCHBURN. Our stage performance is very high energy. Very aggressive. That is the sound of Sangus. And so we must all be high energy output to create together what Sangus is. Sangus live delivers relentless aggression with supreme confidence.
6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We will be performing in New York City and Philadelphia this winter. We would like to tour extensively around the world.
7.The demo came out on FORZAMORTE, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
The label is the self-branding of projects related to a small circle of musicians in the city of Providence. It is mainly operated by Vovk of Sangus. There are plans of many more releases in the coming 18 months. Forzamorte.com will release on the winter solstice.
8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal, crust and thrash?
We have received great feedback to our music from every live performance as well as international audiences who have heard the demo. We have received correspondence from England, Brazil, Greece, France, Chile, Russia, Netherlands, and Mexico. We would like to share our music with anyone around the world with similar interests to us.
9.What is going on with the other musical projects these days?
Members of Sangus are also active in other bands. These bands are the following:
I-Destroyer (speed thrash)
HXN (black metal)
Rampant Decay (grindcore)
Churchburn (doom metal)
Nachzehrer (black thrash)
Saint Jude (d-beat)
10.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
We are preparing material to be recorded at Godcity Salem in February of 2014. We will be recording for a 12" album to be released through Forzamorte. The sound of the band has moved in a direction of accelerated ferocity. Very aggressive guitar riffs. Thundering bass lines. Violent drumming. More blast beats and very fast DTakt. These two rhythms are the ethos of Sangus. Still, listeners will here more dynamics in the songs coming from the groomed musicianship between the 5 players now in the band.
11.What are some bands or musical styles that have influence dyour music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
As Sangus, we are influenced by thrash, black metal, dtakt, crust. The members of the band also enjoy listening to many other styles and genres of music. This naturally influences personal individual musical perspectives of each member of Sangus. When we work as Sangus it is focused on the aforementioned styles.
12.How would you describe your views on Satanism, Luciferian and Occultism?
These terms mean different things to different people. We do not wish to attempt to define them to the world. We do not expect agreement to our own interpretations. It is such, however, that Sangus Legio has very clearly defined views on these 3 topics. We are resolved thus: Satan is our God; The darkness beyond creation. Lucifer is our Lord; The fire of enlightenment. We practice the Occult; the traditions of those come before us who have held close to the lineage of our kind.
13.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Outside of music, members of Sangus enjoy many other activities: European history studies, theosophy study, culinary arts, martial arts, and religious practices.
14.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Thank you for your interest and support of Sangus Legio. Your writing is a great contribution to underground black metal. Please do stay in touch.
To the world: Beware the Troops of Satan.
