Vostok are a 1 man band from Scotland that plays a mixture of depressive black metal and doom and this is a review of his self released 2010 ep "From Lofty Peaks".
"From Lofty Peaks" begins with some slow and dark doom metal guitar riffs along with some drums and after a minute the music s tarts a dding in some melodic and depressive sounding guitar leads and towards the end there are some shouting screams.
"Badbea" begins with some soft acoustic guitar playing and then blast beats, fast and primitive guitar riffs along with some high pitched depressive black metal screams make their way into the song before slowing down a bit before switching back and forth between slow and fast parts and after awhile melodic guitar riffing and powerful sounding bass guitars are added into the song along with some doom metal elements.
"The Last Days Of Autumn" begins with some dark and heavy doom metal guitar riffs along with some drums before adding in some acoustic guitars which utilize both finger picking and full chords and halfway through the song the drums start getting faster before adding in some slow, heavy and melodic guitar riffs along with some high pitched depressive black metal screams which also leads up to some blast beats from the drums.
"Leaving" begins with some dark and melodic guitar and bass riffing and a few seconds later the drums, and depressive and suicidal black metal scream start kicking in along with some synths in the background as well as some guitar leads.
Song lyrics cover darkness and nature themes, while the production has a very dark, r aw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Vostok are a very great sounding hybrid of depressive black metal and doom and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Badbea" and "The Last Days Of Autumn". RECOMMENDED BUY.
