Spire are a band from Australia that plays an experimental and ambient form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2010 ep which was released by Art Of Propaganda.
"I" begins with some heavy guitar riffs and programmed drum beats and after a minute atmospheric black metal elements start making their way into the song and the song is all instrumental with no vocals present.
"II" begins with some heavy guitar riffs and drum beats which also lead up to some grim sounding black metal screams and atmospheric elements in the background and you can also hear a small amount of synth along with some melodic guitar riffing and towards the end the music starts adding in some faster parts.
"III" begins with some black metal guitar riffs, synths and drum beats which lead up to some grim sounding vocals and then the music in the song ranges from slow to mid paced parts and halfway through the song experimental and ambient sounds can be heard in the background which leads up to some melodic clean singing vocals being utilized for awhile before going back to the regular vocals.
"IV" begins with some experimental sounding ambient synths and distorted drones and then song is all instrumental with no elements of black metal.
"V" begins with some atmospheric black metal guitar riffs and drum beats which leads up to some grim screams and after awhile you can hear some ambient sounds in the background which leads up to a small amount of melodic guitar riffing as well as some mid paced and fast sections along with some synths and melodic chanting.
"VI" begins with some avant garde sounding experimental synths and sound effects and this song is all instrumental.
'VII" begins with some heavy drone sounds and drum beats before adding in some atmospheric black metal guitar riffs and melodic clean singing and you can also hear some melody in the guitar riffing.
Song lyrics cover Nihilism themes, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Spire are a very great sounding experimental/ambient black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE ""II" and "V". RECOMMENDED BUY.
