Dodenkrocht are a band from the Netherlands that plays black metal with elements of funeral doom and this is a review of their 2013 self released demo "Misery Chords".
"Devoid' begins with some dark and melodic guitar leads before some heavy guitar riffs, drums and synths start kicking in but keeping the melody in t he background and then the grim black metal screams start kicking in and after a few minutes the music goes more into a blackened funeral doom direction which also leads up to a brief use of spoken word parts as well as the screams utilizing some depressive elements and towards the end the melodic guitar leads make a return to the song along with some deep demonic growls.
"Wake The Dead" begins with some heavy guitar riffs, drums and grim sounding black metal screams along with some synths in the background and the song switches back and forth between slow and mid paced parts as well as adding in some melody and spoken word parts and after awhile the drums start getting a little bit faster in certain sections of the song and as the song moves on melodic guitar leads start coming in and out of the song along with some deep growls being utilized at times.
"Voices Of The Unknown Dead" begins some dark ambient sounding synths and a few seconds later some heavy guitar riffs and drums make their way into the song as well as a brief us e of clean parts before the black metal screams and melodic guitar leads start coming in and after a couple of minute the music goes into a more dark ambient direction for a few seconds before returning to the heavier parts.
"Lifeless Lies The Desolate Land" which is a Manes cover begins with some drum beats and synths and then the heavy guitar riffs start kicking in along with some deep demonic vocals that evolve into black metal screams which in return leads up to some melodic guitar riffing and leads which come in and out of the song as well as some old school Nordic black metal guitar riffing.
Song lyrics cover dark themes, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound with the bass guitars being mixed down low in the mix as well as some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Dodenkrocht are a very great sounding hybrid of atmospheric black metal and funeral doom and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Devoid'" and "Voices Of The Unknown Dead". RECOMMENDED BUY.
