Autolatry are a band from Connecticut that plays a very progressive form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2012 ep "Of the Land".
"Mountain" begins with drums, bass guitars and fast melodic black metal guitar riffs and you can hear some blast beats in the song before going into a more mid paced direction and then the high pitched black metal screams start kicking in and after awhile death metal influences are added into the music as well as the fast parts making their return at times.
"Oak" begins with some dark sounding guitar riffs before the drums kick in and the music gets a little bit more heavy as well as adding in some melody in certain sections and a few seconds alter the black metal screams and powerful bass guitars start kicking in and after awhile the music starts adding in some progressive elements as well as a small amount of melodic guitar leads along with some acoustic and classical guitars being utilized briefly before getting heavy again.
"Stag" begins with some progressive and technical metal guitar and bass riffs along with some drums and melodic elements which also leads up to some guitar leads before the black metal screams start kicking in and this song stays in a mid paced direction and combines black and progressive metal together along with some solos and deep death metal growls being utilized briefly.
"Snow" begins with some fast black metal guitar and bass riffs along with some blast beats which leads up to some high pitched screams and mid paced sections and after awhile melody and progressive elements are added into the song along with some guitar leads and solos.
Song lyrics cover the nature of New England, while the production has a very strong, powerful and heavy sound for being a self released recording where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Autolatry are a very great sounding progressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mountain" and "Snow". RECOMMENDED BUY.
