Teloch Vovin are a band from New York that recently had their debut album reviewed by this zine with a musical style I would describe as being occult black metal with elements of doom metal and this is a review of their self released 2013 ep "Through The Skin.. Into The Soul".
"Alpha" begins with the sounds of bells which lead up to some avant garde sound effects kicking in as well as some demonic and ritualistic chanting.
"Treatises On The Left Emanation (Tunnels Part 1) An Entrance Upon The Tunnels Ov Set" begins with heavy guitar riffs, drums and high pitched grim sounding black metal screams before going into a more slow or mid paced direction for awhile and after a couple of minutes there is a brief use of deep growls being utilized and the start coming in and out of the song along with some doom metal being thrown into the guitar riffing and halfway through the song ritualistic bells start making their presence known and towards the end the music starts speeding up a bit and an old school black metal guitar lead is added into the song along with some blast beats before returning back to the mid paced sections.
"Verminum Cadentia" begins with dark sounding sounds and avant garde sound effects and the song is all instrumental with no vocals or guitars and drums being present.
"HVHI" begins with high pitched black metal screams, fast and primitive guitar and bass riffs along with drums and a few seconds later deep demonic growls start coming into the song along with some atmospheric elements and blast beats and halfway through the song the music goes into a more mid paced direction while still utilizing some fast elements.
"Omega" begins with some ritualistic sounds and after awhile heavy bass guitar sounds start coming into the music and bring in elements of drone along with some synths and after awhile you can hear some black metal and demonic vocals a s well as spoken word ritualistic passages in the background.
Song lyrics cover Black Magick, Left Hand Path and Thelema, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound with the first song being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Teloch Vovin and if you are a fan of occult black metal, you should out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Treatises On The Left Emanation (Tunnels Part 1) An Entrance Upon The Tunnels Ov Set" and "HVHI". RECOMMENDED BUY.
