Vixenta are a band from Australia that plays a very depressive from of black metal with elements of ambient and shoegaze and this is a review of their self released 2012 free promo.
"Invocation" begins with some soft acoustic guitar playing before the drums, heavy and melodic guitar riffs and high pitched depressive black metal screams start kicking in and then the song switches back and forth between soft and heavy parts as well as adding in some synths during certain sections of the song.
"A Moment Of Silence" begins with some dark ambient synths and drum beats and after a minute heavy guitar riffs, melodic leads and high pitched depressive black metal screams make their way into the song.
"Invocation II" begins with some classical guitars that utilize a good amount of finger picking as well as adding in some regular acoustic guitars that bring in some leads and the song is all instrumental.
"Drowning In The Halls Of Solitude" begins with acoustic guitars and sounds of nature and a minute later later, heavy guitar riffs, drum beats and black metal screams make their presence known in the song along with some melodic guitar riffing and after awhile melodic guitar solos and leads start coming into the song and the song closes with the acoustic guitars and whispered vocals.
"Cloud Of Despair" begins with some acoustic guitars and drum beats before the fast, raw and primitive sounding post black metal guitar riffs come in for a few seconds before going into a more slow and melodic direction which also leads up to some depressive screams and towards the end it starts getting fast and primitive again along with some blast beats.
"Intro" begins with some soft acoustic guitar playing along with some leads being utilized after awhile and the song is all instrumental.
"Nigh Thoughts" begins with some acoustic guitars, drum beats and synths along wit h some melodic post rock/shoegaze guitar solos before adding in some heavier guitar riffs and leads and this song is all instrumental.
"Time Is Pestilent" begins with some heavy and melodic guitar riffs and leads along with some high pitched depressive black metal screams and the song is only a minute long.
Song lyrics cover depressive themes, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Vixenta are a very great sounding hybrid of depressive black metal, shoegaze and post rock and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Invocation" "Drowning In The Halls Of Solitude" and "Cloud Of Despair". RECOMMENDED.
