Nocturnal Nightmare Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Hello, of course Nocturnal nightmare’s is a depressive black metal band from Sweden, whose main “goal is to spread our suicidal visions and propaganda through our music to each and every one human or life form,
It started as a one man band but in the end it felt right to welcome Grotesk into the band, as it was on hold for a long time, due to lack of time and really interest in it..

2.How would you describe the musical sound that is present on the ep?
Cold and Raw pretty much straight in your face as it was recorded more or less analog.

3. Can you tell us a little bit more about the song lyrics that are on the new recording?
Hello well I can’t go into very much details as it’s in the middle of the process but so far the songs me and Grotesk has written has a very mixed themes, we tend to focus on the teen suicide topic, and the long way towards life’s end,  as well as human destruction… short but sweet to sum up that *everything that has to do with ending your life…

4.The band started out in 2009 as Fainted Light but broke up and reformed as Nocturnal Nightmare, what was the decision behind the split and also the decision to reform with a different name, and also what is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Nocturnal Nightmare?

Right , back in 2009 I was still in high school as in Sweden is called Högstadiet, like 7th-9 th grade, I was ofc aware of the scene but back then when we had a full line up and meet up to work on music things never happened, none of the members showed any passion or understanding for what they were dealing with, so I more or less decided to walk my own path and a few months later I came in contact with a girl named Ezhipia or Amanda, that lived in Malmö area she was and is a talented musicians who played both guitar piano and did some vocals, so I presented her my idea as I was still planning on doing fainted light but I obviously didn’t want to continue with the name,  so I had a chat with her and presented her my vision and we sort of talked agreed on that we should start up together and work!  But as things didn’t go as planned we were never able to give out full songs, due to more or less me not being able to do a good recording, this was before the whole area of home recording, so it just was left undone, however were still friends, The name Nocturnal Nightmare comes from a dsbm band in Lithuania named Svarthron their song wandering in nocturnal nightmares, and that’s how the name came along..

5.Currently there are only 2 member in the band, are there any plans to expand the line up in the future or do you choose to remain a duo?

We have had a lot of talk about this as at the moment me and grotesk lives quite far away from each other!  and we have been talking about bringing in members for session work or what you want to call it! But we will see where it will come!

6. According to the fb page the band has worked with at least 3 different record labels, out of all the labels the band has worked with which one do you feel did the most to get your name and music out there?

Hello yes, we have worked with 3 Our ep was originally self-released but later we kind of felt it would be nice to see if labels in some of the areas liked it, and so depressive illusion came around, I know the owner, and he’s a great guy to work with, very straight forward, and he does his best to get the band’s music out! ,
We have also done 2 re-releases as we got very much positive response to our ep
So we hooked up with Dipsomaniac records and Legs Akimbo Records,
As they release it for free online to download and it’s something we find it’s a good way to reach out! As our visions are in the music and messages, so if they need to download it to use as a score for their suicide be my guest! – Grotesk comment
Labels, its hard to say as we wanted of course to get our music out to wider audience! But I think all labels we worked with have been very good at doing their thing.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of depressive and suicidal black metal?
Most people seem to dig it, lots of people say it’s the coolest raw shit they have heard since dark throne *laugh a bit over estimated but I think most of it has been very good, I mean we lost 2 likes that must mean they did right and killed themselves!

8.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

I think it will become darker more clear production wise, the new tunes we are writing sounds very much more alive and more vibrant, more or less it’s going to different but still us! As we all listen to various things,

9.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Well I can only speak of what I’ve listened a lot to, Thy Light, Happy Days, Shining, Hypothermia pretty much the more common bands in dsbm, as I am more of a fan of the traditional black metal bands like, Dark funeral, Marduk, Watain, Carach Angren, Gorgoroth,Emperor yea all kinds of shit and even a lot of death metal can inspire me,
Grotesk listens mostly to dsbm , Apati, Lifelover, Hypotermia,Happy days,

10.Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?
No not in this project as we are not a “traditional black metal band

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
I enjoy hanging out with friends and going nuts!

12.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview/
