This is a review of a split album between Finland's Moonkult and Hungary's Solus called "Transmissions" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath Records, Black Plague Records and Metallic Media and we will start off the review with Moonkult a band that plays a very raw form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with drum beats and heavy riffs before speeding up and adding in blast beats and a more raw style of black metal which also introduces high pitched screams onto their side of the recording and the guitar leads are very dark and melodic while the songs are all long and epic in length and also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some of the riffs also bring in a small amount of melody, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Fantasy, Misanthropic and Philosophical themes.
In my opinion Moonkult are a very great sounding raw black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Descending As Storm'.
Next up is Solus a solo project that has been featured before in this zine and plays an ambient form of black metal.
His side of the split starts out with a very dark and atmospheric sounding ambient synth along with some distorted guitars and melodies and after a minute grim black metal vocals make their presence known along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and most of his tracks are very long and epic in length.
At times the riffs can get very melodic and when the music speeds up the vocals get more high pitched along with some blast beats that also takes the music into more of a raw black metal direction and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when solos and leads are brought in briefly they enhance the darkness and melody that are present in the tracks, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover nature, philosophy, and death themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Solus and if you are a fan of ambient black metal, you should check out this side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cursed Illusions" and "Journey Through The Spheres of Eternity".
In my opinion this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of raw, atmospheric and ambient black metal. 8 out of 10.
