Netherlands's Cloak Of Altering are a solo project that has been featured in this zine and plays an avant garde mixture of atmospheric occult black metal, noise, ambient, and industrial and this is a review of his 2015 album "Manifestation" which will be released in December by Crucial Blast.
Dark ambient drones start off the album along with some atmospheric synths and after the intro the music starts bringing in the feeling of a horror movie soundtrack along with the guitar riffs bringing in a great amount of melody before adding in high pitched black metal screams and elements of noise.
All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and a lot of avant garde and experimental influences are present throughout the recording and there are also some death metal growls being brought in times and some songs also bring in spoken word samples.
At times the high pitched screams get very depressive and suicidal and the fast parts also bring in blast beats and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast playing along with a great amount of diversity and some songs also add in elements of doom and symphonic black metal.
Cloak Of Altering creates another album that is very diverse being mostly rooted in black metal but also mixing in doom, symphonic, ambient, industrial, noise, experimental and avant garde elements to create a very diverse and original recording, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover Occultism, Darkness and Nightmare themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Cloak Of Altering and if you are a fan of experimental and avant garde black metal, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Manifestations" "Cave Systems Of The Outer Moons" and "Parasitic Altering Sickness". 8 out of 10.
