Coldbound are a band from Finland that plays a very dark, atmospheric and melodic form of black metal with a touch of doom metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Rites Under Moonlight" which was released by Black Lion Productions.
A very dark and atmospheric keyboard intro starts off the album and after the intro the music goes into a very raw yet atmospheric black metal direction that also uses a great amount of melody and when the music speeds up blast beats and grim yet high pitched screams make their presence known on the recording.
A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and you can also hear clean playing being utilized in certain sections of some of the songs.
When solos and leads are utilized they add in more of a melodic, atmospheric and depressive black metal direction and some of the tracks also bring in a small amount of nature sounds and spoken word parts and some of the slower riffing also brings in elements of doom metal and as the album progresses clean singing vocals can be heard in certain sections of the recording while later songs also bring in a small amount of whispered vocals.
Coldbound plays a style of black metal that is in the modern and atmospheric style of the genre while also being very raw and melodic at times and mixing in elements of doom metal to create a style of their own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover death, darkness, nature, occultism and suicide themes.
In my opinion Coldbound are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal band with a touch of doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Deep Into The Woods" "Devil's Universe" and "Rites Under Moonlight". 8 out of 10.
