Ragnell are a band from Mexico that plays a very fast mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Consumed By The Eternal Darkness" which was rleeased as a joint effort between Satanath Records, Hexenreich Records, Sphera Noctis Records and Dark East Productions.
A very dark and haunting keyboard intro starts off the album and after the into death metal growls and spoken word parts start to kick in and takes the music into more of a fast, raw and melodic black/death metal sound that also introduces high pitched screams into the songs and when solos and leads are utilized they are very dark and melodic.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a brief use of ritualistic chanting and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and as the album progresses keyboards make a return in certain sections of the recording being more of a background effect while the vocals, drums and guitars dominate most of the music while some songs also bring in a brief use of melodic singing and clean playing and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Ragnell plays a musical style that takes a very fast and blasphemous style of black metal and mixes it in with the brutality of death metal along with a few ritualistic touches to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Anti Religion, Evil and Violence themes.
In my opinion Ragnell are a very great sounding mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ritual of Blood" "Pope's Crucifixion" and "Soaked In The Blood Of Blasphemy". 8 out of 10.
