Sarcofago are a legendary band that has been reviewed before in this zine and was a very huge influence on the early war, black and death metal bands and this is a review of their 2015 compilation album "Die...Hard" which will be released in December by Greyhaze Records and consists of their early demo's "Satanic Lust" and "Christ's Death" and some unreleased material.
A very dark and distorted intro starts off the compilation along with some black metal screams in the background and a few seconds later guitar riffs are added into the music that also bring in melodies at times on later tracks and after the intro the music goes into more of a fast and raw musical direction along with some blast beats.
Vocals where very grim for their time while also adding in some melodic screams which where used more in this genre during the 80's and some of the slower riffs add in a touch of doom and you can also hear the earlier beginnings of death metal at times and some of the tracks are long and epic in length.
A lot of the demo tracks are different versions of the same songs and when solos and leads are utilized they bring in even more of the 80's extreme metal sound and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and you can also hear a lot of thrash elements throughout the recording.
Sarcofago displayed more of a raw sound on these demo tracks that where also mostly re-done on their full lengths while also still showing how important of an influence they where to the early black and death metal scenes worldwide, the production sounds very raw while also heavy for the time they where recorded while the lyrics cover Satanism, Anti Christian, Alcohol, Death and Lust themes.
In my opinion this is a very great sounding compilation from Sarcofago and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy the demo tracks. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Satanas" "Nightmare" "Christ's Death" and "Satanic Lust". 8 out of 10.
