Nyx not to be confused with the other band with the same name from Germany are a band from Italy that plays a very raw and aggressive form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Hairesis" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath Records and Vacula Productions.
Melodic Gregorian chants and choirs start off the album and after the intro the music goes into a very fast and raw black metal direction that also uses a good mixture of blast beats and grim yet high pitched screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as a small amount of growls.
A great amount of melody can be heard in the guitar riffing along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and the music brings in a great amount of Swedish influences at times and the solos and leads the band uses are very dark and melodic and Gregorian chants also return in certain sections of the recording while the main focus remains on an aggressive black metal style while the influence of death metal can also be heard at times and there is also a brief use of spoken word parts.
Nyx plays a style of black metal that is very heavy, brutal, raw and aggressive sounding mixing in some of the Swedish style of the genre, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover Occultism, left Hand Path and Luciferian themes.
In my opinion Nyx are a very great sounding fast and aggressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hairesis" "Nema" and "Obnubilato Incesto Semen". 8 out of 10.
