Trup are a duo from Montreal, Quebec, Canada that plays a mixture of raw black metal, ambient and drone and this is a review of their self released 2015 album "Hymnes A La Deroule".
A very dark, atmospheric and distorted drone starts off the album and after a minute the music goes into a very fast and raw black metal direction that also utilizes a great amount of blast beats along with some high pitched screams making their presence known a few seconds later and all 3 of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them and distorted melodies can be heard in certain sections of the recording mostly in the guitar leads along with the music bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music also mixes in elements of harsh noise and dark ambient along with a brief use of synths which they also mix in with the more rawer side of black metal and acoustic guitars and spoken word samples are added onto the last track giving the music more of an avant garde feeling.
Trup plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in the raw genre of black metal and they take the style and mix it with experimental, ambient and drone to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover dark and depressive themes.
in my opinion Trup are a very great sounding mixture of raw black metal, ambient and drone and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Fumier". 8 out of 10.
