Rex Anglorum are a band from Kansas that has been featured before in this zine but now are a solo act with 1 person with the musical style being black metal but only focusing on guitars and vocals and this is a review of his 2013 ep "Obsess" which was released by Deathstyle Records.
Introduction" begins with distorted sounds along with some melodic chanting and sets up the beginning of the ep.
"Aethelred's Revenge" begins with some clean but distorted guitar riffs and after awhile sound effects make their way into the song and towards the end the riffing starts getting fast for a few seconds before slowing down and adding in some black metal screams.
"Obsess" begins with some programmed drums and dark yet melodic guitar riffs before adding in some power chords along with some grim black metal vocals and the song is only 3 minutes long.
"I Killed Gunhilde" begins with some slow black metal guitar riffs and after awhile it starts going into a more mid paced direction while also having a raw approach and the song is all instrumental.
Song lyrics cover hateful themes, while the production has a very garage orientated, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion this is another great sounding ep from Rex Anglorum and if you are a fan of guitar improv black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Aethelred's Revenge" and "Obsess". RECOMMENDED BUY.
