Conrad are a 1 man band from Barbados that plays a very atmospheric form of occult black metal and this is a review of his self released 2010 demo "Oseaan Kroniek".
"Oseaan Kroniek" which is also the first song on the demo as well as title track opens up with nature sounds and synths as well as serving as an intro for the demo.
"Ocean Chronicle" begins with dark sounding synths and bass guitars and a few seconds later heavy and melodic guitar riffs, drum programming and deep grim black metal screams kick in and after awhile the music speeds up a mid paced direction before the synths take over and a brief spoken word part gets added in which also leads to the music getting heavy again.
"The Vehemance of Neptune" kicks in with powerful sounding bass guitars and drum beats before adding in epic sounding synths which also leads to some heavy and melodic guitar riffs and a few seconds later black metal vocals kick in and towards the end there is a brief use of gutiar leads and programmed blast beats.
"Queen Anne's Revenge(...And The Bonnet Militia) starts up with old school black metal guitar and bass riffs along with some drum programming and vocals before adding in synths and speeding up a bit along with a few seconds of guitar leads.
"Oracles Of Olokun" which is also the last song on the demo begins with nature and thunder sounds along with some synths and serves as an outro for the demo.
Song lyrics cover Occultism and Carribean Magick, while the production has a very strong, powerful and dark sound for being a self released recording where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the demo.
In my opinion Conrad are a very great sounding atmospheric occult black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ocean Chronicle" and "The Vehemance of Neptune". RECOMMENDED BUY.
