Neglektum are a band from Sweden that plays a very heavy and dark form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2013 "Blasphemer".
"Blasphemer" which is also the first song on the album as well as title track opens up with heavy and dark sounding black metal guitar riffs and drums and a few seconds later blast beats are added in that also come in and out of the song before adding in grim screams and melodic guitar riffing and after awhile t here is a brief use of acoustic guitars being utilized for a few seconds and towards the end there is a brief use of guitar solos and leads being utilized.
"Infernal Declaration Of Hatred" begins with fast and melodic sounding black metal guitar riffs, blast beats from the drums and high pitched screams and then t he music goes into a mid paced direction before alternating between mid paced and fast parts and towards the end there are a small amount of guitar solos and leads.
"Begotten Son [Forgotten]" starts up with slow and heavy guitar riffs, bass guitars and drums with the guitar riffing also utilizing some melody and you can also in the backgrounds for a few seconds and then the music goes into a faster direction along with some blast beats before alternating between mid paced and slow parts and the song closes in the same tradition as the previous 2 with some melodic guitar solos and leads.
"Salvation" opens up with some soft acoustic guitar playing which utilizes both finger picking and full chords and the song is a short instrumental with no vocals or heavy parts being utilized.
"Babalon" brings back the heaviness with fast and melodic black metal guitar riffs and blast beats from the drums and then the music goes into a mid paced direction along with high pitched screams kicking in and then the song alternates between slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can also hear bass guitars in certain sections of the song as well as bringing in a brief use of deep growls and melodic clean singing
"Death's Curse" kicks in with fast, heavy and melodic black metal guitars riffs before adding in drums and blast beats before adding in grim sounding high pitched screams and after awhile t he music goes more into a mid paced direction along with a brief use of deeper vocals and spoken word parts before speeding up and adding in some guitar leads and solos.
'Dies Irae Pt. I" which is a part of a two song concept begins with soft keyboard and piano playing and is all instrumental.
"Dies Irae Pt. II" which is also the last song on the album opens up with blast beats and fast, melodic black metal guitar riffs and then alternating between mid paced and fast parts along with some high pitched screams and melodic guitar leads.
Song lyrics cover Darkness and Satanism themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful and heavy sound for being a self released recording.
In my opinion Neglektum are a very great sounding heavy, fast, dark and melodic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Blasphemer" "Babalon" and "Death's Curse". RECOMMENDED BUY.
