Euphrasia are a 1 man band from Switzerland that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2013 demo.
"Traumend" which is also the intro for the demo opens up with dark atmospheric synths to set a perfect beginning for the recording.
"Auf dem Boden der Realitat" which is the first official song on the demo begins with acoustic guitars before adding in heavy guitar riffs and drums while also keeping around the acoustic guitars before going into a faster direction along with grim black metal screams and blast beats as well as the guitar riffing utilizing some melody and then the music starts alternating between soft and heavy parts and you can also hear bass guitars in certain sections of the song as well as a brief use of guitar solos and leads.
"Vergehende Zeiten" opens up with dark ambient synths and post rock melodies before adding in drums along with some acoustic guitars and then the fast black metal guitar riffs, blast beats and high pitched screams kick in and after awhile it gets soft for awhile and then goes into a slower and heavier direction along with some clean singing and melodic guitar riffing and back to being fast again.
"Trost" begins with acoustic guitar playing and a few seconds later heavy guitars kick in along with some drums as well as the guitar riffing utilizing post rock melodies at times and then the song alternates between acoustic and heavy parts along with a brief use of blast beats and you can also hear bass guitars in the background and the song also adds in a brief use of guitar leads and solos.
"Thanatos" which is also the last song on the demo starts up with dark, heavy and melodic black metal guitar riffs along with drums a few seconds alter which takes the music into a faster direction along with blast beats and high pitched screams and then the song starts alternating between slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as mixing guitar solos and leads in certain sections of the song and there is also a brief use of acoustic guitars and spoken word parts being utilized before getting heavy again and you can also hear the bass guitars before the song gets heavy again and adds in clean singing.
Song lyrics are written in Swiss and cover dark themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and dark sound for being a demo where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording as well as some of the songs being long and epic in length
In my opinion Euphrasia are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Auf dem Boden der Realitat" and "Thanatos". RECOMMENDED BUY.
