Negativvm are a band from Germany that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2011 album "Tronie".
"Lingchi" which is also the first song on the album opens up with sound effects and spoken word samples along with a background choir a few seconds later and after a couple of minutes fast, raw and primitive guitar riffs along with blast beats from t he drums kick in along with some grim sounding screams and as the song moves on it goes into a slower direction and adds in some melodic clean singing vocals while also keeping around the black metal screams which also leads to the music getting fast again as well as the guitar riffing getting more melodic.
"Kein Himmel" begins with dark sounding synths and a few seconds later black metal guitar riffs start to kick in along with some drums a few seconds later as well as the guitar riffing utilizing more melody and you can also hear bass guitars in the background which also lead to grim vocals kicking in which also leads to the music speeding up a bit and as the song moves on there is a brief use of guitar leads being utilized.
"Unter den Uhren" starts up with dark ambient style sounds and a few seconds later black metal guitar and bass riffs kick in along with some drums which leads to black metal screams and background atmospheres and halfway through the song it goes into a faster direction along with a small amount of blast beats before slowing down again.
"Menetekel" opens up with slow atmospheric black metal guitar ans bass riffs along with some drums and a few seconds alter there is a brief use of spoken word samples before the grim sounding high pitched screams kick in and a minute it goes into a more fast, raw and primitive direction along with some blast beats for a few seconds before returning to a more normal pace but getting fast again towards the end.
"Chore Aus Gold" which is also the last song on the album opens up with dark avant garde sound effects and a few seconds later fast black metal guitar riffs along with some drums kick in along with grim vocals kicking in a few seconds which also leads to the drums utilizing blast beats before slowing down and you can also hear bass guitars in the background and as the song moves on there is a brief use of spoken word samples being utilized and then it goes into a more mid paced direction and then alternating between slow, mid paced and fast parts and towards the end of the song the sound effects make a return.
Song lyrics are written in German and cover distrust of humanity and hopelessness themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful and heavy sound for being a self released recording where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording as well as some of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Negativvm are a very great sounding black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lingchi" and "Menetekel". RECOMMENDED BUY.
