Winterfiend are a 1 man band from Iowa that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2013 demo "Vampiric Intentions".
"Intro" brings the demo in with synths and dark nature sounds before going into the actual songs and only being a minute long.
"World Of the Night" which is also the first real song on the demo begins with old school style black metal guitar riffs and drums along with grim sounding screams a few seconds alter and you can also hear bass guitars in the background and then it goes into a faster direction along with blast beats and then the song alternates between mid paced and fast parts as well as adding in a small amount of melodic guitar solos.
"Frostrealm" opens up with fast raw and primitive sounding black metal guti ar riffs and blast beats from t he drums along with blast beats and grim vocals shortly after that and then going more into a mid paced direction along with a guitar lead and then alternating between fast and mid paced parts.
"Depth Dwellers" begins with drums and semi clean guitar riffs and you can also hear bass in the background and a few seconds later the song gets heavy along with grim black metal screams as well as adding in blast beats.
"Demonic Frost" starts off with some clean and soft guitar playing as well as a melodic guitar lead and the song is all instrumental.
"Underworld Empire" kicks in with fast, raw and primitive black metal guitar and bass riffs along with blast beats from the drums and a few seconds alter grim screams start to kick in and halfway through the song it goes more into a mid paced direction along with a brief guitar lead.
"Long Forgotten" comes in with clean guitar and bass riffs along with drum beats and a few seconds later it goes into a more old school black metal direction along with some grim screams and a few seconds later blast beats kick in before returning some of the cleaner sections around for a few seconds.
"Outro" closes the demo with some dark and evil sounding synths.
Song lyrics cover darkness, cold and occult themes, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it while you can still h ear all of the musical instruments that are present on the demo.
In my opinion Winterfiend are a very great sounding raw black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "World Of the Night" and "Underworld Empire". RECOMMENDED BUY.
