Xexyz are a 1 man band from Illinois that plays black metal mixed music from old Nintendo games and this is a review of his 2006 ep "Primeval Mountain" which was released by Dipsomaniac Records.
"Temple Above The Wood Hollow" which is also the opening song on the ep starts up with raw black metal guitar riffs and drums and a few seconds later grim screams start to kick in and halfway through the song video game music mixes in with black metal.
"What Lies Atop Gran Mountain" starts up with video game soundtrack music and a few seconds later, guitars, drums and depressive black metal screams and cries kick in before adding in blast beats and melody while also keeping around the soundtrack music.
"Metroid" begins with video game music from the same game and then guitars start combining the 2 elements together along with drums and grim black metal vocals and the song has an atmospheric feeling to it.
"Rygar's Quest" kicks in with video game music and a minute later black metal guitar riffs, drums, and depressive screams kick in and halfway through the song drums take over along with a brief use of clean guitars before getting heavy again.
"Nightmare On Elm Street" hits it off with video game soundtrack music and starts mixing in guitars and black metal vocals a few seconds later and after a couple of minutes the music gets more raw along with blast beats.
"The Trojan's Doom" makes its way in raw black metal guitar riffs, drums and video game music before adding in grim vocals and towards the end the music starts slowing down a bit and changes around.
"Garloz" is introduced with video game music and a few seconds later grim and depressive black metal vocals start to kick in and a minute later guitar riffs and drums are added into the song and it sticks to a mid paced direction.
"Attack Of Great Panther" which is also the last song on the ep begins with video game noises before adding in black metal vocals
Song lyrics cover Nintendo video game themes, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Xexyz are a very great sounding mixture of raw black metal and Nintendo music and if you are looking for something original, you should check out this project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Metroid" and "The Trojan's Doom". RECOMMENDED BUY.
