Woman Is The Earth are a band from South Dakota that plays a very atmospheric form of cascadian influenced black metal and this is a review of their self released 2012 ep "This Place that Contains My Spirit".
"This Place Which Contains My Spirit" which is the first song on the ep as well as title track opens up with dark atmospheric synths and a few seconds alter black metal guitar riffs and drums kick in as well as some grim sounding deep screams and growls as well as the guitar riffing utilizing some melody and after a few minutes the synths return along with some clean playing before getting heavy again as well as bringing in fast parts and blast beats and the song closes with synths.
"Bird Song" begins with fast and heavy melodic black metal guitar riffs and blast beats from the drums and a few seconds later grim screams start to kick in and after awhile you can hear synths in the background which also takes the music into a more atmospheric direction as well as adding in slower riffing and towards the end the music returns to a faster direction ans then alternating between slow and fast parts.
"Sage Moon" starts up with atmospheric black metal guitar riffs and a few seconds later drums kick in and the music goes into a faster direction and after awhile blast beats and black metal screams kick in and as the song moves on the guitar riffing gets more melodic as well as going into a slower direction along with some guitar solos and leads
"Glow Beyond The Ridgeline" which is also the last song on the ep kicks in with melodic clean guitar playing and drums and after a couple of minutes atmospheric synths come into the song before going into a fast black metal direction with the heavy guitar riffs and blast beats from the drums along with some grim vocals shortly after that and then alternating between slow, mid paced and fast parts and as time goes on by the guitar riffing gets more melodic, halfway through the song synths take over and take the music into a more ambient direction and stays in that direction until the end of the song.
Song lyrics cover spirituality and nature themes, while the production has a very dark and heavy sound with the bass guitars being mixed down low in the mix as well as the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Woman Is the Earth are a very great sounding cascadian influenced atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "This Place Which Contains My Spirit" and "Sage Moon". RECOMMENDED BUY.
