Widerwertig are a 1 man band from Germany that plays a mixture of orthodox and depressive black metal and anarchist punk and this is a review of their 2013 album "Sinermaskok" which was released by Negation Records.
"Intro" starts off with some slow black metal guitar riffs and drums to bring an introduction to the album.
"Quallenhybrus" which is also the first official song on the album opens up with slow black metal guitar and bass riffs along with some drums and punk style clean singing and after awhile the guitar riffing starts utilizing melody.
"The Abvention Of The Goats" begins with clean guitars before getting heavy and adding in drums and punk style vocals and then the music goes into a more raw and fast direction along with some blast beats.
"Hieroglyph" opens up with heavy and dark sounding guitar riffs and then the bass guitars and drums kick in along with vocals a few seconds later and a few seconds later melodies start coming out of the guitars.
"Kofmans Tod" kicks in with slow and dark sounding guitar and bass riffs along with some drums before adding in vocals as well as melody into the guitar riffing as well as speeding up to a mid paced direction at times.
"Tiefe Tannen" hits it off with powerful sounding bass guitars and drums before getting slightly heavier along with some melodic guitar riffing and leads before going into a fast black metal direction with the vocals remaining closer to punk and then the music slows down and adds clean guitars in certain sections of the song and towards the end there is a brief use of guitar leads being utilized.
"Mnemosyne" is brought in with dark and depressive sounding guitar riffs and drums before going into a more fast and raw direction along with bass guitars, drums and vocals and then alternating between mid paced and fast parts.
"Trichter" is introduced with drum beats before bass guitars and melodic guitar leads kick in and after a couple of minutes power chords from the guitars kick in and the music goes into a faster direction for a few seconds before focusing more on mid paced parts.
"TraumA" makes its way in with soft clean guitar playing and a minute later heavy and melodic guitar and bass riffs along with some drums kick in along with some high pitched depressive black metal screams and a few minutes later the music speeds up a bit and adds in blast beats before returning to a slower direction and then alternating between fast and slow parts and the song closes with clean guitars.
"Vespera" has its start with acoustic guitars and drums and a few seconds alter heavy and melodic sounding guitar riffs kick in which also lead to some depressive black metal screams and powerful bass guitars and halfway through the song there is a brief use of fast playing along with some blast beats.
"Outro" closes the album with some slow guitar and bass riffing along with some drums and then speeds up a bit.
"Cutting Ouroborus" which is also the bonus track begins with distorted black metal guitar and bass riffing along with some drums and then goes into a more fast, raw and primitive direction along with some blast beats and then slows down as well as adding melody into the guitar riffing before speeding up again and the song is all instrumental.
Song lyrics are written in a mixture of English and German and cover dark themes, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it while you can still hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording along with some of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Widerwetig are a very great sounding mixture of orthodox, depressive black metal and anarchist punk and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Abvention Of The Goats" "Mnemosyne" "TraumA" and "Cutting Ouroborus". RECOMMENDED BUY.
