1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Hail! We are working on the new songs and on the ideological aspect of the full album. The progress on the new songs is slow but sure, I think we still need a few months before we enter the studio.
2.How would you describe the musical sound of your side of the split album and also how does it differ from the previous releases?
Well, this time we didn't go for a ”regular” studio recording. We decided to go for an old school style live recording in the studio - which basically means that all of us were in the same room with the drums and amps. There were no overdubs, and no post-production tweaking, and what you hear is the sound you would have heard if you had been with us in the room. The result is amazing and different from our previous albums (although we had already recorded our anthems live in the studio - LP Zima 2005). We will probably record our full album in the same way.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the newer music explores?
The main themes in our lyrics are the occult and pagan traditions of Europe. We are also inspired by some of the European Orders of the occult lore and by the spirituality of Slavs and the old Prussians - by the pre-christian wisdom of my ancestors.
As for the newest recording (the split CD „Dziwki Dwie”) - all the lyrics are in Polish, but the concept is available in English, maybe you would like to put it at the end of the interview? It contains everything I wanted to say about this...
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Non Opus Dei?
Literally, the name simply means a work of art without ”god”. I mean, without ”god” as in the concept of the ”Christian god”. Maybe a work of art created by the people involved in it? Or with the help of the Slavonic and Prussian Gods of my ancestors. I could also prove that there are references to this name in some of the old grimoires.
You see, we could speculate as to the real meaning of the name, however I guess it would take us a few hours to discuss it... And it still wouldn't be the full meaning of the name. I strongly believe that this band is some kind of a „living organism” which changes constantly and the same goes for the meaning of the name. It grows and develops with time, it becomes more conscious, and I guess that finally it will die, leaving some trace in the mortal, causal world. It “flows constanly”, it always changes, it is in motion.
5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
It is difficult to choose one... So, the best show is still to come. We are on it!
6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
I am sure we will play a few gigs once the new album is published. No precise plans yet.
7.Recently you have put out a split with Morowe, what are your thoughts on the other band that participated?
Morowe and Non Opus Dei come from two totally different worlds, and I think this is why we share this split CD together. Moreover, Nihil writes great lyrics and we really wanted to have a split on which the lyrics of both bands would be linked by the same concept.
8.What is going on with the other musical projects these days?
Horizon and I are about to finish working on the second album of Alne - our pagan-folk project. Right now we are working on the drums with a friend of ours, and I think this year we will enter the studio to record the guitars. Probably this winter we will also start recording the vocals. Expect something... Something new and different from Alne's debut album.
9.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
The eternal war has just been unleashed again. I do not get involved. I am just standing aside, watching this battle. The encounter between the two powers, the two totally opposite ideas, which cannot coexist peacefully with each other. Never.
The first one is the avatar of the power which is always against stagnation and degradation. She is beyond any words, since words cannot describe her. She is beyond this world, because this world is not enough for her. The avatar of evolution, development, conquest… She will live until there remain any unknown spaces, previously undiscovered continents, ideas, immensities, galaxies… Or maybe I should say – she will live until we can find for ourselves any unknown spaces, previously undiscovered continents, ideas, immensities, galaxies.
She wants you to be sinister, free, unbridled and full of might. She wants to take off the chains of space and time which imprison you.
And today she has to face her biggest enemy.
She is opposed by the Power which wants to lead us straight into the consumer paradise. The paradise of ubiquitous safety, love, technology, tolerance. The heaven in which we are breastfed by the Radio-Computer-Television Mother. The place where we are in stagnation, suspended between life and death, but not really knowing any of these two states. The paradise in which we are weak and addicted. We just stand motionless, because we know that there are no new worlds to be conquered, there are no more warriors to be defeated, there are no more ideas to get acquainted with.
She wants us to become slaves. Weak, crying, dying, hollow, insipid. Junkies addicted to empty slogans.
One, two – two whores waiting for you. Three, four – which one will you go for?
