Myrrdin are a 1 man band from the United Kingdom that plays a mixture of occult black metal and dungeon synth and this is a review of his 2007 demo "Roots" which was released by Akousmatikoi Underground.
"Intro" brings the demo in with nature sound and dark sounding synths and you can hear ritualistic chanting in the background.
'Beneath Roots" which is also the first official song on the demo begins with slow black metal guitar riffs and powerful sounding synths which take over as the lead instrument and you can also hear grim vocals slowly starting to come in along with drum beats.
"A Conspiracy Of Ravens" begins with nature sounds and a few seconds alter acoustic guitars start to kick in along with some finger picking and the song is all instrumental and under 2 minutes.
"Monad (First Materia)' returns the demo back to black metal with dark and heavy guitar riffs, drums and grim vocals and a minute alter it goes into a more raw, mid paced and old school direction.
"Edicts Of The Melefactor" starts up with dark ambient sounds before adding in some dark and slow black metal guitar riffs along with some synths and after awhile you can hear some melody in the guitars and the song is all instrumental.
"Geomerung" opens up with ambient sounds and a few seconds alter ambient synths kick in and the song is an ambient/dungeon synth instrumental with no vocals or other musical instruments being present.
"Aperture" which is also the last song on the demo begins with dark sound effects and ambient style synths along with some clean guitars and the song is another instrumental.
Song lyrics cover Occultism and Metaphysics themes, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Myrrdin are a very great sounding mixture of occult black metal and dungeon synth and if you are a fan of this musical genre you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Beneath Roots" and "Monad (First Materia)". RECOMMENDED BUY.
