Kult are a band from Italy that plays a very heavy, dark and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Unleashed From Dismal Light" which was released by Folter Records.
"Specter's Recurrence" which is also the first song on the album starts off with some war sound effects and a minute alter old school black metal riffs along with some drums and high pitched screams pick in along with some some blast beats before going into a more raw and fast direction and in certain sections you can hear the bass guitars and towards the end the music slows down a bit while still being somewhat fast.
"Malicious Metamorphosis" opens up with dark and melodic black metal guitar and bass riffs along with some drums before adding in some grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams and halfway through the song there is a brief use of melodic guitar leads and chants being utilized before adding in some mid paced sections and blast beats.
'Exercitus Morturum" begins with heavy old school black metal guitar riffs and drums along with some grim high pitched screams and the song goes for mostly a mid paced direction and you can also hear the bass guitars at times and after awhile the music speeds up a couple of notches and adds in some blast beats for a few seconds before going back to its normal pace and towards the end dark sounding melodies start creeping into the songs while also remaining heavy all at the same time.
"To Flagellate Life" starts off with heavy and fast black metal guitar riffs along with some drums and a few seconds alter bass guitars, blast beats and grim screams start to kick in and after awhile the music goes into a more mid paced direction along with a small amount of melody and towards the end the music returns to a more fast and old school sound.
"Raging Curse Upon Man" comes in with heavy and dark sounding black metal guitar and bass riffs along with some drums and a few seconds alter screams start making their presence known in the song and after a couple of minutes a bass comes in before taking the song into a more old school direction and then going back to is slower pace and towards the end the music goes into a more fast and primitive direction along with some blast beats only for a few seconds and closing with the same riff it began with.
"Into Deadly Coils" which is an instrumental begins with some old school melodic black metal guitar riffs and drums before adding in some bass guitars and blast beats and the song is under 3 minutes.
"Sons Of Nightfall" which returns the album came to vocals starts off with heavy black metal guitar riffs and drums and a few seconds later grim screams start becoming a part of the song, after a couple of minutes bass and clean guitars start to take over for awhile before getting heavy again and towards the end the guitar riffing start utilizing some melody.
"Senza Place" which is also the last song on the album opens with some heavy guitar riffing and drums along with some black metal screams before going into a very fast direction along with some blast beats as well as mixing in old school elements before going to a mid paced direction
Song lyrics cover Nihilism, Satanism, Anti Christian and Winter themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and old school sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Kult are a very great sounding old school style black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Specter's Recurrence" "Raging Curse Upon Man" and "Sons Of Nightfall". RECOMMENDED BUY.
