Throne Of Belial are a band from Colorado that plays a very raw and old school form of Luciferian/Occult black metal and this is a review of their self released 2013 album "To The Death".
"To The Death" which is the first song as well as the title track for the album opens up with atmospheric sounds and guitar effects and the song is an instrumental intro for the rest of the album.
"The Blackened Silence" begins with dark black metal guitar riffs along with some drums before adding in grim screams and then the music goes into a more fast direction along with some blast beats and mixing in both mid paced and fast sections.
"Blood And Goatsemen" kicks in with old school black meal guitar riffs and drums before adding in the grim screams and you can hear the bass guitars and then the song starts alternating between fast and mid paced parts.
"Goatlust" opens up with slow and dark sounding black metal riffs before adding in drums and going into a more fast and raw direction along with some grim vocals and then the song starts utilizing a mixture of fast and mid paced sections as well as adding in blast beats in certain parts of the song and towards the end the guitar riffing starts utilizing a small amount of melody.
"Anti-Christ" starts up with some slow Swedish style black metal guitar riffs and drums along with some vocals a few seconds later and after a minute the music goes into a faster direction along with some blast beats which then leads to the music alternating between mid paced and fast parts and towards the end the music adds in a small amount of clean playing for a few seconds as well as going into a slower direction.
"Osculum Inflame" hits it off with raw old school black metal guitar riffing and screams before adding in blast beats from the drums and going into a faster direction and you can also hear some bass guitars in the background and after a minute the music starts adding in mid paced sections and then the music starts alternating between fast and mid paced parts as well as adding slower riffing in certain sections of the song along with a brief use of spoken word ritualistic passages and towards the end there is a brief bass guitar lead along with a small amount of clean guitars.
"Sorcery Of the Black Sun" makes its way in with old school black metal guitar riffs before adding in drums and grim screams and a few seconds later the music speeds up along with some blast beats for awhile and then music alternates between mid paced and fast parts as well as adding demonic vocals in certain sections of the song.
"Under the Horns Of Baphomet" is introduced with dark sounding black metal guitar riffs and drums and the guitar riffing also utilizes some melody which also leads up to the grim black metal screams and a minute later the music goes into a faster direction along with blast beats and towards the end the music returns back to a slower direction and adds in more ritualistic elements.
"Hymn Of The Dark Forest" is brought in with slow and dark sounding black metal guitar riffs and drums and a few seconds later the music goes more into a mid paced direction and towards the end the music goes into a cleaner direction and then back to heavy along with a few seconds of black metal screams but the song for the most part is instrumental.
"Serpent Of Wisdom" has its beginnings with dark and old school sounding black metal guitar riffs and drums a few seconds later which also lead to some grim vocals and then the music speeds up and adds in blast beats and then bringing in a mixture of mid paced and fast parts and you can hear the guitars utilizing some in certain sections of the song.
"XI" which is also the last song on the album begins with heavy and melodic black metal guitar riffs along with some drums and a small amount of guitar leads before speeding up and adding in high pitched screams and blast beats and you can also hear the bass guitars in the background and then music starts alternating between mid paced and fast parts as well as adding in slow sections along with more melodic guitar leads.
Lyrics cover Satanism, Luciferian, Black Magick and Anti Christian themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and dark sound for being a self released recording.
